One Month Till Build Season!

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

The 2011 FIRST Robotics Competition season is quickly arriving.  Team 604 is currently holding safety workshops to prepare all members for the upcoming build season, so we can have an injury-free one.  There will also be other workshops over winter break in final preparation for the season.

We have also been helping out on the FIRST Lego League scene.  Team 604 has volunteered at six tournaments so far, and run our very own tournament, the Quixilver Qualifier on November 13.  Congratulations to the champions, Team 455: The Los Altos Geek Squad.  Full results and more information can be found here.  Team 604 also mentored four different FLL teams, with two advancing to the 2nd Tier regional level, and one advancing to the state championships.  More information on their achievements can be found here.

Annual Starbucks Demo 2009

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

This morning, we had our annual community demo at a local Starbucks in order to spread FIRST within our community and to raise awareness about the program before the upcoming 2010 season.  Bringing four of our five robots, we advertised FIRST, FRC, FTC, FLL, and our own team at the event while encouraging members of our community to attend the upcoming local offseason event, CalGames.  We hope our efforts will increase community involvement and participation in FIRST.

Take Flight for Kids 2009

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

Today, our team attended the Take Flight for Kids event to promote FIRST and robotics within the community.  Held at the Ried Hillview Airport in San Jose, the event introduced the over 5,000 attendees to FIRST.  Working with The Apes of Wrath (Team 668), The Insomniacs (Team 2489), and The Prototypes (Team 2854), we showed attendees that FIRST Robotics is not a game of Battlebots, but a program filled with CoopertitionTM and Gracious ProfessionalismTM through a revised mockup of the 2009 challenge, Lunacy.

Maker Faire 2008

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

The San Mateo based Maker Faire was a great success for Team Quixilver and the FIRST community. Team 604 spread the word of FIRST to over 65,000 people, including hundreds of inventors, independent companies, and children ecstatic to delve into LEGO robotics. While having such a strong appeal to younger children, numerous bay area high school students also demonstrated great interest in starting FRC teams at their high schools.

Annual Starbucks Demo 2007

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

The Leland Robotics Team held a fundraiser at Starbucks. There, we promoted CalGames, the upcoming off-season tournament, demoed with VEX and FRC robots, and fostered the love for robotics in their community. Thanks to generous community support, we were able to raise over $1,100 in one morning! This brings us one step closer to our fundraising goal.
